[ARCHIVED] A Milestone for Nye County Public Safety – Permanent Funding Secured

We are proud to share a major victory for the residents and first responders of Nye County. Through recent legislative action, the expiration date has been permanently removed from the Nye County Sales and Use Tax Act of 2007. This historic step ensures ongoing funding for emergency services, allowing our communities to receive uninterrupted support, enhanced capabilities, and stronger protection.

Governor Joe Lombardo signed Assembly Bill 69 into law on June 2, 2025, solidifying indefinite funding through the Public Safety Sales Tax (PSST).

Backed by nearly unanimous support in the State Legislature, this move underscores Nye County’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of its people.

The PSST has already played a critical role in hiring and equipping frontline personnel, upgrading infrastructure, and bolstering emergency response across the County. In 2024 alone, the tax generated $4.48 million, which funded salaries, modernized communications, and expanded mutual aid and public safety initiatives. Leaders like Sheriff Joe McGill, Comptroller Helen Bae, and Emergency Management Director Scott Lewis have praised the funding as essential to financial stability and operational readiness, particularly in Nye County’s most rural areas.

This is more than just fiscal policy; it’s a long-term investment in lives, infrastructure, and peace of mind for every resident of Nye County.

Thank you for your continued support of public safety. For additional details, please see the linked press release.
