When you come into the County Veterans Services Office you will be referred to a service officer for assistance.  The County Veterans Service Officer has a compassionate understanding of the problems, which confront veterans, widows, widowers, and children.  The County Veterans Service Officer knows the extent, the meaning and the application of laws that have been passed by the U.S, Congress in the interests of veterans and their dependents.  They also know the rules and regulations adopted by the Department of Veterans Affairs to clarify and implement those laws.  The County Veterans Service Officer will apply specialized knowledge in the best way suited to the needs of every individual veteran or other beneficiary who comes to the office for assistance.

 

Kenneth Shockley is currently the Director of Veterans Services for Nye and Esmeralda Counties. Ken is currently accredited with 16 different Veterans Service Organizations and can help assist you with your Veterans Benefits needs. Mr. Shockley has been accredited since the office inception in 2006 and has helped thousands of Veterans obtaining their benefits.

Our staff requires yearly continuing education training through the National Association of Veterans Service Officers to keep current on the constant changing VA rules and regulations. We take pride in our knowledge in Veterans Benefits and wish to provide you with the most current and up to date information about your Veterans Benefits.

Our office is equipped to help in areas such as, but not limited to, Disability Compensation/Service Connection, Non-Service Connected Disability Pension, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, Death Pension, Burial Benefits, Healthcare Application, Vocational Rehabilitation, Education Benefits, Life Insurance, Home Loan Guarantee, Appeals, Decorations, Ribbons and Medals and more.

The Goal of Veteran Services
  • To inform and educate our Veterans of the benefits they may be entitled to
  • Assist Veterans in filing VA Claims
  • Give aid, assistance and council to problems, questions and situation relating to veterans benefits both State and with the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Research the claim, case law, regulations and medical opinions to ascertain and develop the best strategy and action for filing a Notice of Disagreements and Hearing Request
  • Review assigned claims as made available by the local rating board on a regular basis and in co-ordination with the Veterans Benefits Administration of the Department of Veterans Affairs
